Why the framework was created
A(DT)2 emerged from Dr. Gates’ doctoral studies in 2022 and evolved through research and practical application. It was formally published as a framework figure in his 2025 book, Digital Disruption.
The framework addresses a recurring execution gap: organizations may recognize disruption and generate ideas, yet struggle to move the highest-value problems through validation, adoption, and sustainable business outcomes.
How A(DT)2 works
Problems enter a continually prioritized disruption backlog. Selected responses move into a solution backlog and through an iterative cycle:
- 01 · Define Clarify and prioritize the business problem or disruption.
- 02 · Ideate Develop possible responses grounded in stakeholder needs and strategic value.
- 03 · Prototype Create a practical representation of the selected response.
- 04 · Test Validate assumptions, usability, feasibility, and expected value.
- 05 · Deploy Release a measured transformation increment and learn from its results.
